Advising Manual at UMFK

Student Athletes

Academics are the first priority for all students at the University of Maine at Fort Kent. Student participating in intercollegiate athletics is no exception. The athletics department will work closely with the Registrar’s Office and faculty in an effort to schedule games and practices around student-athletes class schedules.

However, it is the responsibility of all student-athletes to personally meet with the professors PRIOR to any missed classes due to games or practices. UMFK Professors always have the final decision on all absences.

Academic requirements:

  • All students must be enrolled in a recognized academic program and progress towards a 2 or 4-year degree.
  • All students must be enrolled in a minimum of 12 credits at the time of participation.
  • If a student is enrolled in less than 12 credits, they will be considered part-time for eligibility purposes.
  • The only exception is when a student is in the final semester. Second-semester students must have achieved a GPA of 1.6.
  • The student-athlete should schedule classes around established practice times during the season of competition.
