UMFK OER Grant Program

Requirements

Commitments

Those who successfully apply and receive a UMFK OER Grant will collaborate with the UMFK OER Committee on their projects.  The following are what each party will contribute to each project proposal. 

Successful Applicants

  • Adopt and integrate course materials that are free to students by the semester and year agreed on.
  • License compiled or original content created as part of the UMFK OER Grant program with a Creative Commons open license excluding those with "No Derivatives" clauses.
  • Make material available to Blake Library to place in various accessible locations in either electronic, print, or both formats (you will not be required to actually print the material, just make it available).
  • Materials developed as part of the UMFK OER Grant program will be done so with an eye towards accessibility. Consult with Jessica Daigle at jessica.l.daigle@maine.edu or ext. 7532 when/if necessary. 
  • Submit a copy of the course syllabus to the UMFK OER Committee that details the materials used for the course and that clearly declares that course materials can be accessed without cost and without restrictions (e.g. a login should not be required before anyone, including those outside the class, may access the material). 

UMFK OER Grant Program Committee

  • Pay Funding to the grantee upon completion of the project, which is at the end of the first semester taught.
  • Provide Assistance searching for open educational resources and library materials (see Sofia Birden at sbirden@maine.edu or ext. 7527).
  • Host a UMFK OER orientation for grantees if desired by awardees (Sofia will need to know what you want to learn).
  • Provide copyright and licensing guidance (Creative Commons or also see UMFK OER Guide under "Copyright Help and Best Practices"). See Sofia Birden for help.
  • Provide Technical assistance in modifying open educational resources through available resources.
