Book banning is a current issue that has seen an uptick in the last couple of years, with many LGBTQ+ books like Maia Kobabe's Gender Queer as well as classics like Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird being banned and/or challenged in school and public libraries. These challenges and bans infringe on a person's right to choose what they read and restricts the resources available to students and readers of all ages. Most censorship in the past couple of years has targeted books with strong themes of race and sexual identity.
