ACCESSING E-RESOURCES FROM OFF CAMPUS

MERRILL LIBRARY FAQs

How do I find out if the Merrill Library has the e-book or Streaming Video that I need?

  • URSUS is the online catalog of resources owned by all seven of the University of Maine System campus libraries, plus the Bangor Public Library, the Maine State Library, and the Law and Legislative Library.  As a UMM student, you may borrow materials from any of the libraries in URSUS in person or by using the Request function by clicking on the  Request icon located at the top left hand corner of the item record.  You will be asked to supply your last name and the 14 digit barcode that begins with 25022... or 21865...  found below the barcode symbol on the front of your ID Card, and select a pick-up location - U of Maine--Machias.  If you do not have an ID Card or a library barcode, please contact the Merrill Library by phone at 255-1234, or by email at ummlibrary@maine.edu.

  • Available e-books and streaming video can be accessed from the URSUS catalog by following the links that identify the item as an electronic resource and follow the UM Orono/Machias Access link or the UMS Access link.
  • Streaming videos from Academic Video Online are also found in URSUS.  Streaming video is identified by this icon  on the left side of the video title. Click on the title and follow the Connect to: UMM Access.  For example the streaming video The Jazz Ambassadors [electronic resource (video)] :  can be accessed by clicking on UM System Wide Access or in other cases you might see this - UM Orono/Machias Access
  • When off campus you will be asked to authenticate by typing in your UMS credentials. Your login is everything in your email address before the @ sign and password.

Account Access & Borrowing

Access your ILLiad Account here

What is ILLiad?

ILLiad is the software used by the Library for requesting Interlibrary Loan (ILL) materials beyond LibrarySearch and MaineCat. If you don't have an account, you can create one here.

Who can use the Library's Interlibrary Loan Service?

University of Maine at Machias faculty, staff, and registered students can use ILL services. Courtesy Card holders should use their local public or school library's ILL services.

Important Account Information:

  • Do not use "@" in your login name – this causes access errors.
  • Type "MACHIAS" in the Primary Address 1 line when registering for an account.

Please note: We cannot ship loaned items off-campus due to supplier restrictions. Loaned items must be returned directly to Merrill Library.

Exclusions for Students:

  • Items marked "LIBRARY USE ONLY"
  • Items on reserve
  • Textbooks required for class
  • Items electronically available through LibrarySearch

Document Delivery Services:

UMaine Machias faculty and staff can request PDF copies (up to 30 pages) of journal articles or book chapters from Fogler Library through ILLiad.
