People use a variety of tools when working with information. Some of these tools you may recognize:
Other tools you might not be so familiar with but are readily available at Blake Library:
(EbscoHost: CINAHL, PsycINFO, Academic Search Complete, etc..)
(ProQuest: Sociological Abstracts, etc.)
(LibrarySearch: all the above, and almost everything else)
The difference between the first set and the second set is RELIABILITY.
The first set, though fun and quick (and free), is not always reliable. Anyone can place any kind of information on the web for these tools to find. Information is easy to create and manipulate so having a filter helps a great deal.
The second set provides a necessary filter. These tools provide access to information that libraries carefully choose, and in most cases pay for, so you can have legitimate resources for your assignments. These resources include journals, magazines, newspapers, and in the case of LibrarySearch, a lot more. This set allows you to spend time on the research rather than trying to figure out if what you found is a legit resource or not.
