Course Reserves: Home

Provides information on how to access materials that have been placed on Reserve by your instructor for your course.

Course Reserve

Course Reserve houses readings in print and various media formats for UMaine-Machias courses submitted by University faculty, departments and organizations. Reserve materials are either hardcopy (at the Circulation desk) or electronic (online) available in your Brightspace course.

                                                                                                                         

Accessing Print/Hardcopy Reserves

1. Before going to the Circulation/Reserve Desk access the Merrill Library's homepage

a. Select Reserves tab, located at bottom-center portion of the OneSearch box.
b. Search reserves by course number or by instructor
c. Select appropriate course if more than one is listed.
d. Hardcopy items are loaned for short periods (typically 4 hours). Lengths of loans vary by course. Check the Course Note heading at top of page for more information. Most items are limited to library use only.

e. Length of Reserve loan period is determined by your instructor.
f. Examine list of readings arranged alphabetically by title.
g. Check under Call Number column for title availability before you go to desk. Any item status other than AVAILABLE means it is in use. 
h. Note titles that you need.
i. Bring your Clipper Card (required to check-out materials).

2. Go to the Circulation/Reserve Desk

a. Inform attendant of needed item(s) to expedite retrieval. You may borrow up to three items at once.
b. Present your Clipper Card.
c. You will be informed of when the items are due at check-out.
d. Return materials to Reserve Desk.

  • Valid Clipper Card ID required for hardcopy reserves.
  • Loan periods are either 4-hour or 2-day (specified by instructor).
  • 3-item limit.
  • Reserve material is neither held nor renewed.
  • Materials must be returned to the Reserve Desk.
  • Fines are assessed at $2.00/first hour overdue and 25 cents/hour thereafter. Patrons are charged a replacement fee for materials not returned.

Electronic Reserves

You will find in your Brightspace course(s) a module titled Course Reserve or Course Readings. Your instructor or the Library has placed required reading material(s) there which are available to you 24/7.  Should you have difficulty in finding or accessing these Reserve materials, you can contact your instructor or the Library by phone or by email.
